About
The future is wireless and the future of medical devices even more so. From wearable medical technologies, which now come with embedded Bluetooth, wireless charging, and even 4G and 5G; to tried-and-tested technologies like defibrillators which now have GPS or Wi-Fi; plus hundreds of pieces of medical equipment in hospitals with RFID tracking tags; it’s hard to imagine a medical device in the modern day which wouldn’t have some sort of wireless technology. However, with this comes a huge additional compliance burden on top of the existing approvals for FDA and MDR etc. In this presentation, we will explore what wireless technologies are available, what the future may hold, how the compliance roadmap changes when adding wireless technologies to your medical device, how that roadmap expands when looking at global compliance, and crucially, how best to minimise this additional burden.
